Geotechnical Engineering-I Handwritten Notes [PDF] By Akshay Thakur
All civil engineering structures rest on ground i.e.
supported by soil and rock. Rock is rarely occurring and hence mostly the
supporting medium is soil. Hence the stability of structure depends on the
stability of supporting medium. Therefore, Geotechnical Analysis is required to
be carried out. Geotechnical analysis depends on the basics of physical
properties which are useful for determining the strength, compressibility,
drainage etc. The soil mechanics is the basic tool for geotechnical engineering
which is the specialized section of civil engineering. Soil is also used as
construction material to make various civil structures, viz., dams, embankment
etc. Thus, it is very essential to understand various concepts involved in it.
